Week 4 – Waiting for the Weekend (Sevilla Trip)

Welcome back to another late blog post, and an even later vlog post (cause i haven’t had the chance to start that yet). And the phrase “living for the weekend” has never been more true than this week. The entire week preceding this weekend was just thinking about my trip to Sevilla. So since the trip was the highlight of the week, I’m gonna spend a little time on classes and a lot more time on Sevilla!

Classes this week were fine. We finally finished a singular unit, so we started actually practicing examples that made sense. For Bioinstrumentation, we started examples of MOSFET’s as amplifiers, which is fine, and in Biomechanics, we finished stresses, and the examples for both require knowledge on a lot of theory, so here’s to hoping that I can cram all that info into my head. Signals is boring, and Biotransport, the only class that I have homework in, is difficult but interesting, so that’s fine. Therefore, the only wild card now is Biomechanics because that teacher is still horrible. But that’s all that is new for classes (see, boring.).

Sevilla!!!

Our train left Madrid at 6 am, and because I am dumb, I stayed up to watch Interstellar for the 20th time. So I only got 2 hours of sleep before I left. But we got to the train on time, and then it started to go. Three hours later, we were in Sevilla (crazy how that works, i know). When we first left the train station, the sky was overcast, and lets just say I was not overwhelmed by the first sight of the city. The colors of the first couple of blocks were all drab and a repetition of the same three colors. However, I was not gonna let my first sight of the city ruin my entire weekend (plus i was hungry, tired, and had to go to the bathroom, so that among other things lol). We found a nice little bakery, and we had our breakfast, and immediately everything started to look brighter (no really, the sun came out and everything was brighter). After that, we waited until it was time to check in to our AirBnB, and then started our walk to a couple of museums. First on our list: Sevilla Museo de las Bellas Artes!

I discovered I am a sucker for art, except older art. Older art all looks the same and is the same subject (the bible and stuff, which isnt bad, but it gets repetitive). More recent fine art is better because, I feel, there is a lot more than can be read for the common ley person. I usually find it easier to find meaning, which makes me interested in the art, but that’s just me.

After the Museo de las Bellas Artes, we went to the local Contemporary Art institute and looked at the exhibits they had there. Lets just say, I was way more interested in those.

They had three exhibits on display: Rosalind Nashashibi, a local artist who focused on pieces of the formation of community; The Richard Channin Foundation, a group of young artists that made shows and cartoons that inspired youth art in the early 2000’s; and Us Girls, Again, a statement by the school announcing that it will aim to close the gender disparity in the art world in both exhibitions and acquisitions of art.

I really enjoyed the exhibits, and saw it as a time to sit back and reflect on the world. I like this type of art because the meaning in the art is not just solely places in the subject and context of the art. It also has to do with the observers experience with the art, which brings in the observer’s past and beliefs, which for me gives the art a deeper meaning. Oh yea, and this place had a grove of lime trees, so that was pretty cool too.

Catedral de Sevilla
Real Alcazar

As for the rest of the trip, I think I will just put that in the vlog. A lot of it was sightseeing and food and whatnot, which I think can be done best in a mega montage. Hopefully that won’t take me as long, but knowing me, of course it will, cause I’m a perfectionist and still haven’t started yet lol. Oh well, it will come when it comes.

Interior of the Catedral de Sevilla. I freaking love this one

Thanks for reading my blog!! I really enjoy doing this, so even if you don’t read it, thats fine. Imma still do it. Im going to Barcelona the next weekend, and Segovia the weekend after, so I will definitely have my work cut out for me. I also have to battle my feelings of homesickness, cause that is starting to sink in, and the everlasting question of how do I better understand rapid Spanish, but hopefully that will come with time. Thanks for reading, and I hope next week’s post comes on time.
