Who am I? (Start Here)

My name is Brennan Chaloux, and I am a Junior Biomedical Engineering Major from VCU. Welcome to my Blog!!

I am writing this blog to share my experience in my semester abroad in Madrid, Spain. Hopefully, this blog will accurately reflect that, and be a dumping place for pictures, videos, funny stories, and hardships I experience while here. For starters, I should probably introduce myself and tell you a little bit about who I am. I will share my pre-departure thoughts in another post, but don’t worry!! My crazy thoughts will be shared plenty in this blog.

Like I said, I am a Junior Engineering student. I have three sisters, a wonderful mother and father, as well as two cats, a dog, and a rabbit. I was born in Oklahoma City, but since my father was in the military, we moved to a lot of places. I have lived in Virginia for 13 years, and this is the longest we have ever stayed in one place. I am a curious and energetic individual who thrives off challenges and not staying still. I am also a huge nerd who enjoys anything new in technology and medicine. I do not know exactly what I want to do in my future, but I know I want to conduct my own research in the future.

I currently attend Virginia Commonwealth University, and am living my best life. I love my studies as well as all the extracurriculars that give my college career meaning. I participate heavily in research, whose topics can range anywhere from biochemistry to organic synthesis to 3D Printing to EEG signal analysis. I also helped found a student organization called Personalized Education for College Success (PECS), which connects college volunteers to high school seniors to provide peer-to-peer assistance on any and all aspects of the college application process, mostly in the realm of essay editing. Both of these parts of my life are really important to me as they give me outlets that the regular school curriculum don’t exactly provide. I feel that they give me challenges I wouldn’t otherwise be confronted with, as well as teach me new skills that I know I will need in the future.

While I am a huge nerd, I have hobbies as well (cause who doesn’t). I love the outdoors, and hiking, mountain biking, and camping are my favorite activities. I also have my own 3D printer that I mess around with from time to time, and it is a cool project I have where the community is so supportive and a great place to find upgrades/troubleshooting tips if I ever need it.

I hope that gives you a decent introduction of who I am, and I cannot wait to get to Spain! Tune in next week for funnier content, especially my pre-departure thoughts! (I also need a better way of ending these posts, so feedback is welcome)
